Hi, friends!
I’m going to go ahead and assume that anyone reading the first blog post on a brand new website is probably someone that already knows me, the author. But just in case one of you found the site organically through the interwebs, let me introduce myself.
My name is Laurel, and this site chronicles my life lately. I’ve been writing blogs for over 20 years, and as my family and I embark on a new chapter in our lives, it seemed like the perfect time to start a new one after a recent break. It’s been a few years since I wrote in an online space, as I’ve been focusing on my novels, and I’m really looking forward to getting back to it.
So what can you expect from this site? A complete and utter rebellion from this trend of “niching down”. I have spent years running multiple Instagram accounts—one for each part of my personality, specifically to appease the algorithm, and recently I realized that whole idea completely goes against everything I believe in.
I am a multi-faceted, complicated, serial new-hobby-acquirer, and I refuse to compartmentalize myself anymore. I am a whole person. Take me as I am, with all the intricacies of my personality, or leave me for others to enjoy, please and thanks.
I didn’t really answer the question though, did I? Talk about going off on a tear. You will find content about our family’s new life in the city, my growth in the social justice space, making our new house a home, my witchcraft practice, our homeschooling journey, the writing process and progress of my novels, living chronically ill and disabled, queer and genderfluid experiences, the reality of having eight pets, finding magick in nature (even in a city), and so much more.
If any of that sounds interesting to you, I hope you will stick around. Or, maybe you know something about my life that you’d like me to speak about, in which case, please reach out! I hope to stick to a regular posting schedule, but as we all know, my physical and mental health, as well as my busy life as a homeschooling mama of three, often interferes with any sort of regularity or schedule in my life! I promise to do my best.
So I guess that’s it, that’s the intro. At the time of writing this we are moving in exactly four weeks, but I haven’t finished designing the site yet, so I’m definitely posting this closer to the big day. When you’re reading this, we’re probably just days away from moving! So exciting! Stay tuned for a moving blog!
This is my life lately...
Laurel
